DMX Light Control

Looking for some guidance on cabling. Having issues making a controller talk to a 4 x parcan LED bar. It kind of works using OB3 but not fully. The current fly in the ointment is we only have XLR mic cables rather than a proper DMX cable. Is that really likely to be an issue over a short distance with a single fixture?

Wasn't sure where to post this where it will be seen! Had a search & found a few post from a now deleted member & it seems @Khazul & @Seb Briggs may have some...
