Nadal continues Paris reign with record-equalling 20th Slam

With his record-improving 13th triumph at Roland Garros, world number two Nadal is now tied with Swiss Roger Federer as the player with the most men's singles major titles. Nadal was the early aggressor as he choked Djokovic to win the opening set in brutal fashion having made only two unforced errors, before keeping a firm grip on a subdued Djokovic in the second set under the roof of court Philippe Chatrier. Djokovic, who was looking to win his 18th Grand Slam title, rebelled in the third set, breaking back for 3-3, only to drop serve on a double fault in the 11th game before Nadal went on to bag his 100th victory at Roland Garros with an ace. Djokovic had won five Grand Slam finals in a row since being beaten by Stan Wawrinka at the 2016 U.S. Open, but Nadal was not upset on his turf despite a new stadium design, the roof and the lack of spectators amid the COVID-19 crisis. Locked out of galleries, Londoners find Caravaggio street art

The Italian baroque master’s “Supper at Emmaus” is usually available to view at the National Gallery in London, but with that shut, Stanhope’s giant interpretation is now on show in Ladywell, southeast London. Lockdown has given the artist the time and the quieter streets to replicate a painting he said he has always admired and wanted to do on a large scale. “I thought I wanted something that was going to take me some time, you know, quite a long time to do, just to get through the days of not doing anything else, so that’s why I took it on,” Stanhope told Reuters. The artist is best known for his giant green and gold place-name murals near railway stations, a trend which in recent years has fostered local pride and provided a backdrop for outdoor food markets. But since the virus shut down normal life in March, the 52-year-old artist has been unable to carry on with his commissions, and has instead turned his attention to the pandemic. Caravaggio’s 1601 painting depicts a resurr...

Researchers studying the platforms have argued that the companies must collect data about this period. European Commissioner Vera Jourova called Twitter’s move “a good step in the right direction.” “Our cooperation and regular contacts with online platforms to fight disinformation are bearing fruit. I have constantly underlined the importance for researchers to have better access to useful non-personal data and tools,” she said. Last week, 75 groups and individuals, including digital rights and free speech organiz...

'River monster': Huge African dinosaur Spinosaurus thrived in the water

Scientists on Wednesday announced the discovery of fossil bones from the tail of Spinosaurus in southeastern Morocco that provided a deeper understanding of the appearance, lifestyle and capabilities of the longest meat-eating dinosaur on record. “Spinosaurus had a highly specialized tail - a propulsive structure that would have allowed this river monster to actively pursue prey in the water column,” said University of Detroit Mercy paleontologist and anatomist Nizar Ibrahim, lead author of the study published in the journal Nature. Spinosaurus, which lived 95 million years ago during the Cretaceous Period, was a highly unusual dinosaur, and not just because of its staggering dimensions - up to 50 feet (15 meters) long and seven tons. The anatomy of Spinosaurus had remained mysterious for decades after crucial fossils were destroyed during World War Two until the 2008 discovery of the Morocco skeleton, with the additional tail bones dug up since 2015. Its tail was flexible with a ...
