Help with connections for Samsung Smart TV, Yamaha VX363 A/V Receiver and Xfinity cable box with DVR

Daughter bought new Smart TV so could subscribe to Disney +. This app cannot be accessed through Xfinity. Cannot figure out how to play audio through A/V receiver using the app on the TV. Will only play through TV speakers even with Optical cable connected from TV to receiver. All suggestions appreciated! I realize this “old” receiver is not HDMI ARC compatible but don’t understand why it doesn’t work with the optical cable?

Hi, I'm new here. I've just sold my Arcam FMJ P7 to a great guy who is on these forums. So I now have my Arcam FMJ AV9 pre-amp to sell. This has been a great processor for me, and I can honestly be thankful to it for revealing subtle elements on recordings that no other pre-amp has given me.
