Basic cabling

I'm a bit puzzled, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
I have two HDMI cables coming out of my smart TV. The first one goes into the back of my Virgin V6 box. I also have an optical cable from the V6 to the amp. The second goes into to back of my Yamaha amp. All works fine, except when I want to listen to anything on the TV's apps through the amp. No matter what input I select, I get only what is coming through the tivo box, rather then what’s on TV. If I put the V6 on standby, then...

Hi, I'm new here. I've just sold my Arcam FMJ P7 to a great guy who is on these forums. So I now have my Arcam FMJ AV9 pre-amp to sell. This has been a great processor for me, and I can honestly be thankful to it for revealing subtle elements on recordings that no other pre-amp has given me.
