J&K: Elections to Block Development Councils to be held on October 24

The polling will be held on October 24.

Elections will be held on party basis and 26,629 panchs and sarpanchs are eligible to vote and contest for the post of BDC chairpersons.

This will be followed by polls for 22 District Level Chairpersons for the District Development Boards.

The results will be declared on the same day.

Polling hours shall be from 9 am to 1 pm while the counting of votes shall be taken up on the day of poll from 3 pm onwards.

The nominations would be filed up to October 9 and the scrutiny of nomination papers shall take place on October 10. Date of withdrawal of candidature has been fixed as October 11.

While addressing the media, Chief Electoral Officer Shailendra Kumar said that adequate security will be provided.

The elections, which will empower grassroots leaders, will create a new political class in J&K.
