Amazon Echo & Dot

Hi,

I have a curious question about the latest gizmo to be popping up with regularity on the latest purchases thread.

I am curious if people are buying the Echo or Dot for specific reasons and/or gadgets in their house - if so what are those gizmos?

Or have people bought them purely as a "I want to see what it is like and I am total technology tart?"

I have a harmony hub and I believe it can be sync'd with that so all activities can be controlled via that. However I find using my phone...
