Lok Sabha Polls: Campaigning heats up for remaining Phases
Amidst the fourth phase of polling on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi campaigned in full swing in various parts of the nation addressing several rallies. The PM held rallies in West Bengal and Jharkhand, appealing people to vote for the BJP.
Taking a jibe at the 'Grand Alliance or the Mahagathbandhan' PM in his first rally at Koderma, Jharkhand appealed first time voters to vote against the 'Maha Milawat'. He said that the so called 'grand alliance' does not want a majority government majority in centre. Lambasting the Congress, he said that they want a weak government whom they can control via a remote.
PM addressed the second rally in West Bengal's Serampore, where he launched a series of attack at the state government. Attacking West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, he said that she cannot form a government at the centre only with a handful of seats. Adding on he said that 40 MLAs of the TMC are in touch with him and will leave the party once BJP wins the election.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister addressed the people in Barrackpore, West Bengal where he mentioned the accomplishments of nda government and said that it is necessary to be cautious of people who lay more emphasis to bank politics over the nation.
As the fourth phase of elections concluded, the BJP is now shifting all of its focus on Uttar pradesh. BJP president Amit Shah and state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held several rallies in the state. While Shah campaigned across Chitrakoot, Pratapgarh, Jaunpur, and Prayagraj. Adityanath too, addressed the public in Pratapgarh along with Gonda and Rae Bareily. Both leaders enummerated the achievements of the NDA government and attacked the opposition over the issues of national security, corruption, and, terrorism.
Meanwhile, there were reports of violence from West Bengal during the fourth phase of polling, post which the BJP has asked for central security forces at the polling booths. A party delegation met the Election Commission and alleged that TMC workers are holding the democratic system hostage.
The filing of nominations is gaining momentum amidst voting and electioneering. Actor and BJP leader Sunny Deol filed his nomination from Gurdaspur, Punjab. Before filing his nomination, Deol visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar. He was accompanied by his brother Bobby Deol.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi also campaigned extensively for the congress on Monday. Addressing a rally in Rajasthan he described the party's proposed minimum income guarantee scheme as 'diesel for the engine' of the Indian economy. He said the NYAY scheme will not only help the poor but also jumpstart the Indian economy, claiming that lakhs of youth will get employment too as a result of implementation of the scheme.
Addressing another public meeting Rahul promised that the congress will fill the vacancies in government departments in one year after coming to power.ensuring 22 lakh jobs for the needy. He said that the youth will not have to seek permission to start a business once they come back to power. His sister and congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was in Chitrakoot in UP. She addressed a rally after offering prayers at Kamtanath Temple.
Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhhu also addressed a rally in Madhya Pradesh in favour of party nominee there.
Meanwhile, a Congress delegation met the EC on Monday with its list of grievances related to the polls. Party leaders specially mentioned discrepancies in the state of Tripura.
Amidst the cacophony of the campaign, Monday was also the last day for nomination for the elections. Many Congress leaders filed nomination on the last day including Manish Tewari and Shatrughan Sinha.
The Mahagatbandhan in Uttar Pradesh today replaced their candidate in Varanasi. Instead of Shalini Yadav, sacked BSF Jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav will take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the temple town. While, NDA leaders in Bihar exude confidence of a stellar show in the state, a TMC delegation met Election Commission in Delhi to complain about poll malpractices in West Bengal.
