PM Modi lays foundation stone for extension of terminal building at Surat airport
In his second vist to Gujarat within a month, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for expansion of the terminal building at Surat airport.
With an area of over 25500 sq.m, the terminal building will be built at a cost of.354 crore rupees.
It will increase the airport's handling capacity from 4 lakh flyers each year to 26 lakhs.On the occasion, PM Modi said that his government is making far reaching efforts to connect the country through the air route.
He added that the biggest strength behind the government's big decisions and ambitious schemes is the people's mandate which delivered a full majority to the government.
He said the previous govt would've taken 25 more years to do the amount of work his govt has done in the last 4 years.
Surat Airport's new terminal will be eco-friendly and sustainable using solar energy and LEDs.
The PM also inaugurated several projects connected to Surat Smart City on the occasion.
The Surat Municipal Corporation spent 421 crore rupees on these projects.
He also laid foundation stones for different developmental projects costing 636 crore rupees.
He also handed keys to five beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
The PM said that his government built 1.3 crore homes during the last 4 years..whereas the UPA constructed only 25 lakh homes during its tenure.
He also said that his govt enacted the RERA law to ensure that the hard earned money of poor and middle class people doesn't get stuck in real estate projects.
The PM credited demonetisation for cooling down property rates making it cheaper for youth to buy.
The PM also inaugurated the Rasilaben Sevantilal Shah Venus Hospital and got an overview of its facilities.
On the occasion, the PM dubbed Ayushman Bharat a revolutionary scheme for the nation's poor.
The PM also praised Surat city for its development.
Citing a report, he said in the coming years, Surat City will be number 1 among the fastest developing cities in the world making it the centre of global economic activities.
He also cited Udan, Pasport Seva Kendras and several other schemes benefiting the youth to illustrate how the government is sincerely working day and night to make the lives of the poor and middle class easier.
