President Sirisena to meet UNF, TNA for possible solution amid crisis
The meeting comes after 14 TNA MPs decided to support UNF leader and demanded restoration of government as it existed prior to 26 October.
The support has established majority for UNF led by ousted Prime Minister Ranil Wickresminghe while the parliament passed another motion against the new Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Thursday.
President Sirisena has earlier maintained that he will not appoint Wickremsinghe as Prime minister again while Wickremsinghe's party is backing him as the leader.
The meeting on Friday is being seen as crucial in a bid to resolve the impasse.
Meanwhile, parliament will resume Friday amidst continuing boycott by MPs supporting Rajapaksa. 123 MPs supporting against Rajapaksa passed a motion in parliament on Thursday to suspend funds to office of new Prime minister.
However, the new government maintained that such a motion can only be brought by a minister with the approval of cabinet. Wickremsinghe asserted that Mahinda Rajapaksa was brought from the backdoor to the Prime Minister’s seat but it has been proved through Parliament that that there was no such government led by him.
