Chhattisgarh: DD News cameraperson martyred in Naxal attack

He was part of DD News team covering the upcoming election in the state.Fatefully, this turned out to be his last picture.

He had put his life on stake to bring news from the Red Corridor to the people.

He was martyred alongside 2 policemen in a Naxal attack in Aranpur police station limits in Naxal-infested Dantewada district of the state.

2 other policemen were injured and 2 Naxals were eliminated in an exchange of fire between Naxals and security personnel.

DD News team was in the area to cover poll preparations.It had gone with a police team to the Nilavaya jungle.

DD News Correspondent Dheeraj Kumar and Lighting Assistant Mor Mukut Sharma escaped without injuries.

They described the attack and the subsequent exchange of fire that lasted nearly 45 minutes.

Upon learning about the attack, senior police officers from the district and police reinforcement rushed to the spot from the nearby security camp situated in Sameli.

Teams of the CRPF, DRG and STF have started anti-Naxal operations in the area.Mortal remains of the video journalist and soldiers have been taken away from the spot.

The injured policemen have been taken to Raipur hospital.

As per the police, it was a targeted killing against the media and also aimed at thwarting road construction activity in the area.

For the last 15 days media personnel had been reporting on development works in remote areas of the state in the run up to state polls.Heart-felt tributes poured in for the martyrs late in the evening in Dantewada district
