Pre amp in hifi

Hi, I'm looking a bit more seriously at DACs as I will have paid my speakers off in a couple of months. I'm looking at something that will compliment my Cambridge Audio A5 integrated amp (I know it's old but it's been my trusty steed for a decade or more and it almost has sentimental value now!). I came across a Cambridge Audio DAC with pre amp which I must say I'm drawn to and gets good reviews. I don't know much about pre amps, are they widely used in high end audio set ups?

Hi, I'm new here. I've just sold my Arcam FMJ P7 to a great guy who is on these forums. So I now have my Arcam FMJ AV9 pre-amp to sell. This has been a great processor for me, and I can honestly be thankful to it for revealing subtle elements on recordings that no other pre-amp has given me.
