To start our post here at The Bits today, we have three more new Blu-ray reviews for you to enjoy, including...
Dennis’ look at the new RGB documentary about U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, available from Magnolia.
David’s take on Jason Reitman’s Tully, starring Charlize Theron and written by Diablo Cody, available from Focus Features and Universal.
And Tim’s thoughts on Jack Arnold’s Boss (1975), a blaxploitation western starring Fred Williamson from Kit Parker Films.

Before we get started with news, we have a quick update on Universal’s new Universal Classic Monsters: Complete 30-Film Collection and Creature from the Black Lagoon: Complete Legacy Collection Blu-ray sets. I still don’t have product in hand, but expect to soon. That said, we’re hearing that the 2D presentation of The Creature Walks Among Us (1956) IS in fact in full 1080p. That means it’s only Revenge of the Creature (1955) that’s screwed up, with both its 2D and 3D presentations offered in 720p only. Universal continues to investigate and we will provide an update as soon as they do. In the meantime, we still suggest that all those of you who care about this issue politely contact the studio’s Customer Support team via this e-mail link and Facebook and ask them to correct this issue.
Now then... we have street dates from retailers for David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Panic Room on 4K Ultra HD. Look for them both on 10/30 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. They will also release Steven Spielberg’s Hook on 4K UHD on 10/9.
It also appears that Overture Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment will be releasing Lucas Foster’s Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, on 4K Ultra HD on 11/6, but we’re not yet sure who’s distributing.
In other news, Scream Factory has set the Hammer Films title Dracula: Prince of Darkness for Blu-ray release on 12/18. Also coming that day is the Starman: Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray. The company has also delayed their Blu-ray release of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation Blu-ray by two weeks to 11/13. Adjust your plans accordingly.
And Kino Lorber Studio Classics has announced the 11/13 Blu-ray and DVD release of the Carole Lombard classics Made For Each Other (1939) and Nothing Sacred (1937). Also coming that day to Blu-ray and DVD is Robert Altman’s The Gingerbread Man (1998). And on 11/6, look for Big Trouble (2002) on both formats.
Also, don’t forget that the new Jack Ryan TV series launches tomorrow exclusively on Amazon Prime.
Stay tuned...
